How To Make DIY Halloween Bath Bombs Like Lush 👻

Posted by Tiffe Fermaint on

Ah.. the most wonderful time of the year, Halloween! When all the spooky home decor rolls out and pumpkin flavor is the option of almost everything. Also, Lush rolls out their Halloween themed bath bombs! We love everything Halloween and all the ghostly activities that go along with it. Want to learn how to make these cool Halloween bath bombs or bath fizzies? Here's a fun DIY that you can make with your creepy kids to add a bit of the supernatural to bathtime.

Easy Homemade Halloween Bath Bombs Four Ways

I used a lot of items that I already had around the house to keep it simple. I picked up some fun little Halloween goodies from the dollar store like the spider rings, eyeballs, and fangs. I also found scented Epsom salt at the dollar store with lavender already added! Violet and I invited our friends Abbi and Kayla over to give us a hand and helped us kick off the Halloween season. It was October 1st. Hocus Pocus was playing in the background. Let's just say, it was a lot of fun, a bit messy, but totally worth it! The girls loved making these bath bombs and watching them react to the water.

Ingredients and Supplies:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup citric acid (look for it at the grocery store next to the canning supplies)
  • 1/4 cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup Epsom salts
  • 1 tbs. water
  • 1 tsp. oil (we used melted coconut oil)
  • a few drops of food coloring
  • bowl
  • whisk
  • molds (either a soap mold or things you have around the house)
  • toys small enough to fit, big enough to not be a choking hazard

Basic Directions:

In a bowl, whisk together all of your dry ingredients. Go slow as the powder can create dust! In a small bottle (I picked mine up at the dollar store) add your water, oil, and food coloring. For each bath bomb, we used a different color. Shake to mix. Slowly add a few drops of your wet ingredients mixture to the dry ingredients and whisk quickly. If the dry ingredients start to fizz, you've added too much. Slow your roll! Once all of the wet ingredients have been added, take a small amount of the mixture and squeeze it in your hands. It should be able to stick together in chunks. If it doesn't hold together, you may need to add a little more water.

Next, add the mixture to your mold of choice. We chose to use things around the house and reuse some plastic cups. A perfect opportunity to use the three R's! (reuse, reduce, recycle). We also added our fun items. See below for more details on that. Next, allow your bath bombs to dry overnight or pop them in the fridge for 30 minutes if you'd like to use them at bathtime that same day. Carefully remove them from your molds. I found that using the plastic cups were the best because you can cut them off to remove! You can wrap them in plastic wrap and store in a dry place until you’re ready to use , or you can gift them to goblin friends.
